Math

The Mathematics department at Sudbury Secondary School offers a variety of courses from grades 9 through 12 in three different streams: applied, academic, and essentials.  Our teachers offer a variety of innovative teaching methods to help meet all of our students’ needs.

Grade 9 and 10 courses focus on placing students in the stream that will help them understand mathematical concepts .  In grade 11 and 12, our teachers help students choose courses to prepare them for College, University, or the Workforce.

Our dedicated teachers offer math help sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch.  Math study sessions are held in room 315 and are a great way for students to receive individual help, get caught up on homework, and/or study for upcoming tests.

Every year, our most promising math students are invited to participate in the University of Waterloo’s provincial math contest.  The grade 9, 10, and 11 contests will take place in February, and the grade 12 contest in April.  Last year, our very own, Jack Cushnie, placed in the top 25% of all writers in the province.  Any students interested in participating in the contests should see Ms. Gibbs.
